Utimaco Releases Key Management Security Solution

Utimaco announced the availability of the first key management security solution based on the OASIS Enterprise Key Management Infrastructure (EKMI) standard. Based on Utimacos SafeGuard CryptoServer hardware security module (HSM) and the StrongKey solution from StrongAuth, Inc. the new solution enables enterprises to encrypt data on a comprehensive platform-level basis.

Financial, government, healthcare, education and retail organizations continue to report data breaches at an alarming rate. While encryption offers the strongest defense for IT infrastructures and sensitive data, a lack of standards in symmetric key management has made enterprise-wide encryption a challenge for most organizations. SKSML is a protocol that would streamline key management by enabling different systems to evolve into a single EKMI.

Simply put, SKSML will make it easier to deploy encryption solutions, said Arshad Noor, Founder and CEO of StrongAuth. Currently, security products, databases and applications from different vendors use different encryption schemes. This new protocol enables enterprises to use a single key management solution rather than try to manage separate key systems for each product that have different procedures and processes for the keys.

Utimaco's SafeGuard CryptoServer is a FIPS-certified, tamperproof HSM. It is responsible for securely generating, storing and applying cryptographic keys and certificates during encryption and digital signature processes. StrongAuth specializes in enterprise key management, identity management and compliance management products and solution and created a higher level of protection for enterprises.

Through our technology partnership with StrongAuth, Utimaco is providing the first solution to solve key management security problems based on the pending OASIS standard, said Andreas Philipp, Head of HSM Business at Utimaco. Until now, service-oriented architectures have not had a security solution that would effectively solve the complex issue of enterprise key management. A standard key-management protocol is critical to protecting data, and today we offer global organizations and large enterprises a sophisticated combination of flexibility and security based on an open standard.
